Once In A while I Fall Sick

Last week I was at my home town. I had went there to enjoy my holidays but to me and my family despair, typhoid caught me on the first day and didn't leave me till the holidays were over. I had to attend one of my senior's marriage but couldn't go in that also. My chance of meeting with friends and having fun were also lost. After 3 days of fever I was taken to the nearest doctor. After examination his very first question was if I've been outside my hometown in the last fifteen days. The obvious answer was yes, I live in Bangalore and have come here just three days back. Hearing this he opened his Pandora's box diseases starting from malaria, typhoid and reaching "I don't know what" disease and added precautions he takes from patients from Pune and Bangalore after the swine flu stint. Swimming Madness

This is from the time when I didn't know how to swim. I can recall two incidents from that time which are worth mentioning. The first one was at chhatth'2000 and the second at chhatth'2001. In our village we used give aragh at the bank of the river opposite to our village as that bank had sand. We used to call it baluahi ghat. So, the day before teenagers from our gaon used to swim across to decorate the other bank. Decoration was a symbol of reserving the place for us. We used ribbons, series bulbs, banana trees etc, to decorate the place. Back to the point, it was the day before the festival. All teenagers were crossing the river. There was a boat also and as I was a novice swimmer(that would also be boasting, I just used to throw my arms and legs), I was on the boat. The Other Side

On my way back from office, I saw a family on an auto at a signal. The family had husband, wife and two lovely kids, the elder progeny a girl and the younger one a boy. Usually after seeing any kid i try to attract their attention and interact with them by making faces or friendly gestures. I try to make children smile because their smile makes me satisfied and somehow that smile gets reflected into my happiness. After seeing these kids i was my usual self and i tried to pull the nose of the girl child. But at that time a strange thought struck my mind. With so many cases of child abuse and rapes being reported would the parents of the child consider me as a threat or a friendly person. Where would they be drawing a line for the classification between the two. All these absurd thoughts were going on in my mind. The signal turned green and the auto moved forward. The girl looked back, smiled at me and took away all the worries i had.
